Case 5: Dental Implant Alternative
Advanced bone loss with cemental tear #9
This patient had suffered trauma to her front tooth as a child, the resulting cemental tear and advanced bone loss are obvious.
Tooth #9 was considered hopeless by the periodontist due to the deep pockets, mobility, and what is called a cemental tear (which typically cannot be treated without surgery or an extraction of the tooth) - tooth #9 was treatment planned for extraction, replaced by a bone graft and implant.

1 year after RPE (x-ray) – excellent bone fill |
This patient was thrilled with her result. She continues to do well and her tooth has tightened up nicely, with less than class I mobility at her one year reevaluation. She was able to avoid a tooth extraction, bone graft, and implant.
